On Unity and Truth

Can we surrender to the truth for unity?

After the death of the beloved Prophet Muhammad ( saw) some Arab tribes stopped paying zakat and Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (RA)decided to go to war with them to make them comply. At that moment Hazrat Umar ibn khattab (RA) came to him and asked Abu Bakr( RA) “How can we fight with someone who has declared the shahadah la illah il al Allah”?!

Abu Bakr ( RA) exclaimed, “ By God I will fight with those who differentiate between salah and zakah! Salah is the right of Allah and zakah is the right of men. Even if they only gave a baby goat in the time of the beloved Prophet ( saw) and have stopped giving it now, I will fight with them.”

Hazrat Umar (RA) is reported to have said that :

“By God it was nothing else but the opening of Abu Bakrs heart (inspired comprehension of the matter)by Allah and I recognised that it was nothing but HAQ( truth).

Similarly in another incident after the battle of yamama when a lot of huffaz were martyred Hazrat Umar Ibn khattab (RA)came to Hazrat Abu Bakar ( RA) and asked him to compile the Holy Quran in a manuscript. To which Hazrat Abu Bakr ( RA) replied, “How can I do something, the Prophet ( saw) himself did not do when he was alive?”( he was hesitant) but Hazrat Umar ( RA) insisted until Hazrat Abu Bakr relented. It is then that Hazrat Abu Bakr said :

“And Umar ( RA) kept on insisting until Allah opened my heart for me and I saw what Umar was seeing” ( Ref: Seerat Un Nabwi by Allama Shibli Nomani and Syed Suleman Nadwi)

This beautiful example from the Sahaba’s life gives us a whole new perspective on reality.

- Sincerity and unity for Allah’s sake gives birth to a unique synergy.

- Doing it for Allah or ikhlas teaches us to surrender to the truth even if it is against our own comprehension or judgment of the matter.

- As soon as we let go of our own opinion in favour of the other presuming them to have knowledge even if we are apparently right. Allah subhana wa Tallah brings such sincere people to a consensus on the doable truth.

- Ikhlas opens hearts and brings us closer .

- Islam teaches us to navigate through life like an expert, after all we aren’t here to stay, are we?!

ON RESPONSIBILITY!

The seemingly inconsequential fly buzzed around incessantly from one nose to another. Some were totally oblivious to its existence, Some bore its buzzing with a somewhat irritated expression while others shooed it away with a wave of their hand. Eventually,  it dived into a teacup. All hell broke loose. “Who let the fly in?”, “What a mess”, “Such a crappy building”, “Who left the window open?” “Who opened the window?”, “Why can’t you put a lid on your cup?”, “Why don’t we have fly screens for these doors and windows?”, “Why don’t we have a fly repellent?” A guy sitting on the far end folded his magazine and squatted the fly as soon as it landed on his desktop. That was ‘The End’ for the fly. (inspired from a real-life scene) We can roughly categorise the two kinds of behaviours/personalities described in the scenario above as ‘reactive’ and ‘proactive’. Out of these two our people fall into the ‘reactive’ category. A nation of reactive individuals who are not willing to...

The truth unveiled!

VALENTINE’S DAY The truth unveiled 'Every deen has an innate character. The character of Islam is modesty.' Al Muwatta 47.9 HOW IT STARTED: Like most Christian festivals, the origin of Valentine’s Day also lies in the pagan Rome. In ancient Rome young men and women used to celebrate this festival where the women would write love letters and throw them in a huge pot. Then the men would choose their partners through lottery and would court (relationship before marriage) the girl whose letter came in their hands. (Webster’s family encyclopedia). According to the encyclopedia this festival has no direct or indirect link to the life of Saint Valentine (269 A.D). To make Christianity more popular and acceptable among the pagan masses, the Christian clergy added this festival to Christianity by celebrating this day as Saint Valentine’s Day. The myths regarding Saint Valentine giving his life for the sake of love and others are all false. WHERE DO WE ST...
