I am pained :

. Is there a way to raise awareness about abuse and crime without actually causing its level to increase in the society?

. Is there a method of education which can possibly address the cause and the effect simultaneously?

. Why is it ok to witness rape and harrasment on big screens and not ok when it happens for real?

. Why does it hurt when someone passes a sexually explicit comment on the road passing by but is quite acceptable when the hero on the big screen does the same to the heroine?

. Why is it okay to play/ perform item songs depicting women and girls as objects of lustful desire on wedding ceremonies (one of the most beautiful bonds granting value to both men’s and women’s lives)?

. Why is it logical to glorify and sensualise women in banner ads and billboards 24/7 and still expect people to lower their  gaze?

. Why is it okay to raise hue and cry over rape every now and then without addressing the power hungry, pervert nurturing societal trends which raise rapists every day?

. Why is the sexual connotation of love so rampantly used and abused in every single mode of communication?

. Do we have no other problems in this world like poverty, war and apartheid?

. Are we worse than the animals now that we focus on the worst means to address our carnal desires?

. Do we have no other purpose in life but to eat, spend and sleep?

. Does love have no other meaning to us than the deplorable version offered to us by the commercial media?

. Don’t we love God anymore? Don’t we realise there is a God?

. Is it a mere coincidence that when the biggest powers of the world get busy in war, destroying civilian lives,  we are still busy discussing entertainment and vacation possibilities?

I am pained , very pained over Asifa, over Zainab and many others like them.

I am pained over Syria , over Rohingya, over Yemen, over Kashmir, over Palestine.

I am pained over those jailed around the world without trial.

I am pained for the huffaz who got killed by a bomb on their most important day of life.

I am pained over our wilful forgetfulness!

For Allah, for Akhira and for the eternal.

Spell bound?  Qazi Shareeh was a a famous tabaai ( those who had the opportunity to sit with the Sahaba of our beloved prophet saw) appointed as the head of the judiciary in the time of Omer (RA). The fact that in the presence  and life of great figures like the Sahaba, Shareeh was appointed as a head judge is of significance. He had the courage to give judgments against the ruler of the time and both Hazrat Omer and Hazrat Ali (RA) agreed to his verdicts in their opponents favour.  This independence ofcourse came from a strong character. Honesty, courage and humbleness at both ends. It was very interesting to follow the confusion of the govt and the conflicting statements of the opposition over the NAB ordinance mess. The way amendments are dished out in our country is so amazing that one wonders weather 'writing the law' has become more important than the implementation?! According to the spokesperson the amendments will bring more 'clarity'. Hoping they can bring mor...

While reading up on discourse and narratives I discovered why individuals and groups decide to resist or adhere to certain discourses. A need to belong, to assert their existence and negate any threats to it seemed to be the most prevalent logic. The feminist discourse on 'women rights' and the conservative discourse on 'duty first' is no different. It's  a draining  debate on the organisation of two truths. Human fitrah adheres to its duty if its right to exist is not threatened. Zooming in, that is why each discourse tries to answer the critical questions of existence and purpose. No one claims complete answers. All take positions.  Positions can be conflicting, conciliatory or reciprocative.  Often enough in different circles I have felt an absence and intolerance to  that very prick that can burst the bubble of a certain discourse.  A conservative religious organisation's banners caught my eye and disturbed me greatly. It stated in Urdu that ...
