VALENTINE’S DAY

The truth unveiled

'Every deen has an innate character. The character of Islam is modesty.' Al Muwatta 47.9

HOW IT STARTED:

Like most Christian festivals, the origin of Valentine’s Day also lies in the pagan Rome. In ancient Rome young men and women used to celebrate this festival where the women would write love letters and throw them in a huge pot. Then the men would choose their partners through lottery and would court (relationship before marriage) the girl whose letter came in their hands. (Webster’s family encyclopedia). According to the encyclopedia this festival has no direct or indirect link to the life of Saint Valentine (269 A.D). To make Christianity more popular and acceptable among the pagan masses, the Christian clergy added this festival to Christianity by celebrating this day as Saint Valentine’s Day. The myths regarding Saint Valentine giving his life for the sake of love and others are all false.

WHERE DO WE STAND TODAY?

Centuries after the demise of the ancient Roman Empire, its culture still lives. Modern European and American lifestyles are a true representation of that culture. Valentine’s Day, today is more of commercial gimmick rather than a celebration of love. The godless nations who rule the economy of this world, maintain their dominance by continuously doping the people with such celebrations of lustful and carnal desires. Love is natural and like everything natural it flourishes within the natural boundaries set by Allah and dies when these boundaries are transgressed. When love dies, lust, selfishness and tyranny are born. These are the hallmark of all the present day secular nations and sadly Muslims are foolishly and blindly following them.
Multinational companies all around the world and especially in Muslim countries sponsor special events like musical shows, catwalks, funfairs in schools and colleges to mark this day. The Muslim youth including young girls and boys are encouraged to give flowers and chocolates to each other, to dress up in clothes most attractive to the opposite sex, exchange love cards, send obscene mobile messages and the media becomes the tool for all such purposes. Actors and Actresses are presented as role models; expensive restaurants offer special discounts for valentine couples which tend to attract even those teenagers to this event who just want to have fun by eating out.
The sale of flowers increases so does the sale of everything else involved or used in merry making. This is the kind of culture the west has succeeded in cultivating in Muslim lands because they know that “those who stand for nothing will fall for anything”.

“HAYA” A MUSLIM’S WEAPON

The cure for this gradual social disintegration lies in none other but in the love of Allah. He says to us in surah Al- Baqrah, verse 165:
That “….but those who believe, love Allah more (then anything else).”

Islam presents to us a culture unique and beautiful, a culture of HAYA. Where men and women are segregated so that they can excel in their God given abilities. Where women are protected and not considered merely the objects of men’s affections but are respected individuals with their own identity. Where women cover themselves to maintain their dignity, where men lower their gaze to guard their modesty. Where love for Allah injects a sense of purity in the love for all relationships. Where love is celebrated every day between, man and wife, brother and sister, parents and children and last but not the least between Man and God. SubhanAllah. Alhamdullilah.

May Rabbana protect our ummah from such fitn.

A thought came to mind after reading your post...

Love is such an integral part of our lives as muslims that without it we wont even have complete faith.
But the twisted n vulgar meanings of it that has come to surface are covering the true essence of love.
It is such an important part of a mulims' life that one of the category of ppl who will b shaded on The Day when there will b no shade but His is of those who love each other for His sake and part from each other for His sake n remembrance.
And i ask Rabbi to count us among them for meeting n parting for Him on social media :)

I love you my Rabbi my dear
